Latvian Contact Karate League (LKKL) is a Kyokushin Karate organization founded by Edgars Aizpurietis, Branch Chief and an experienced martial arts instructor. Based in Latvia, LKKL develops full-contact karate through regular training, athlete preparation and participation in national and international competitions. The organization is part of World Kyokushin Budokai (WKB).
Edgars Aizpurietis began training in karate in 1977 and later dedicated his career to Kyokushin, drawn to its discipline, fighting spirit and full-contact approach. Alongside his own experience as a competitor in karate and Muay Thai, he has devoted many years to coaching and developing athletes. His students have achieved international success, including a bronze medal at the 1997 IFK World Championship.
LKKL operates dojos in Purvciems, Ķengarags, Jugla and Ulbroka. Training is available for children from four years of age, beginners, teenagers and experienced competitors. Classes include kihon, kata, kumite, physical conditioning and full-contact fighting preparation. The programme develops technical ability, endurance, discipline, self-control and respect for opponents.
The league has developed two adult world champions: Mark Deniss Rauda, who won the KWF World Championship in the Netherlands, and Marija Skuloviča, an IFK World Champion in Germany. Other LKKL athletes have also earned medals at world and European competitions.
LKKL combines traditional Kyokushin values with structured sports preparation, encouraging practitioners to overcome challenges and continually improve. The organization is also preparing to host the WKB European Championship in Latvia in 2029, marking an important milestone for its development and the growth of full-contact karate in the country.
