Daikanyama Dojo is an official Kyokushin Karate dojo of the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Opened in August 2015, it continues the tradition of the former Ebisu Dojo and offers training for children and adults of different experience levels.
The dojo is led by Makoto Akaishi, an experienced instructor and former elite competitor. He won the heavyweight division of the All Japan Weight Category Karate Championships in 2008 and placed fourth at the 2011 World Open Karate Championship. After retiring from competition, he devoted himself to teaching and developing practitioners of different ages.
Instructor Chiharu Higuchi holds a 1st Dan black belt and has an impressive competitive background. He won the middleweight division of the All Japan Weight Category Karate Championships in 2018, after taking silver in 2017. In 2019, he represented Japan at the World Open Karate Championship, reaching the top 16.
Training includes kihon, kata, kumite, pad work and physical conditioning. Classes are adapted to different ages, abilities and goals. Children develop coordination, concentration, discipline and respect, while adults work on technical skills, physical fitness and practical fighting techniques.
Daikanyama Dojo welcomes beginners, experienced practitioners and international members. Through regular training, grading examinations, seminars, camps and competitions, students can develop their karate skills under experienced instructors with direct links to the Kyokushinkaikan Honbu. The dojo provides an environment where practitioners can pursue personal growth, improve their technique and build the physical and mental strength central to Kyokushin Karate.
